Last night I had a very vivid dream – a dream of the praying mantis. A bright yellow spider was in my house, in a giant house plant. The spider scared me. I knew I had to get it out of the house, but it was so large I was having trouble locating a jar or glass big enough to capture it. While I was searching, the spider morphed into a furry praying mantis. It was still huge – and yellow – but somehow I felt calm, like it would be okay to let the mantis stay if that’s what he wanted. It seemed more like a gentle chick than a predatory insect, what with the sunlight reflecting off its leaf-like fuzz, but then, chicks are predators, too.
Then, maddeningly, the details get blurry. I think the mantis morphed again, maybe into a bird, but I can’t remember.
Spiders have always represented fear for me. I respect them, but prefer to keep my distance. Seeing a praying mantis is supposed to be good luck (?) but I don’t know what he represented in my dream. So I Googled it.
“To dream of Praying Mantis is to understand that your intuition is trying to guide you at this moment. All the gut reactions and instinctual emotions you have been feeling of late are trying to tell you something about the situation you are currently in. Trust your feelings and act appropriately. Retreat, pounce or be pounced on.” – SpiritAnimals.com
I ignored my intuition (or common sense) this morning. That didn’t work out so well. Maybe Mr. Mantis has a point.
