Small Om Symbol Necklace
This is a small om symbol necklace, although I realize “small” isn’t a very helpful description when one is shopping online. In this case,”small” means “about the size of a dime.” Click the image to view this handmade om symbol necklace in my ThreeNatures Etsy shop. I created the charm by pressing copper metal clay into a drawing I made of the universal OM symbol. No two necklaces are exactly alike, since metal clay retains an earthy, rustic nature, despite being pure metal. I love making custom orders, and would be more than happy to make you an om necklace in different colors or materials.
Ummm – What is Om?
What exactly is OM? It is a mantra and mystical Sanskrit sound of Hindu origin. “OM” is the reflection of the absolute reality, it is said to be “Adi Anadi”, without beginning or the end and embracing all that exists. Om is sometimes spelled aum, which makes its three syllables more apparent. A-U-M. (excerpted from Wikipedia)
If you are interested, a more in depth definition of om specific to yoga can be found here. As the author states, the concept of OM is hard to distill into a sound bite. Summarizing it as “everything that is” or “past, present, future” is partially accurate, but also quite limiting. I think it is better to let the mystical stay mystical instead of nailing it down to one interpretation.
Om is often chanted at the beginning and/or end of the invocation or closing prayer during yoga classes, if your teacher is into that kind of thing. Chanting om is optional. I happen to enjoy it. I also enjoy the harmonics of a room full of people coming together – or not as the case might be! – holding a single note, a single intention. It is a nice little moment of meditation. Perhaps a small om symbol like this necklace could invoke a similar sense of harmony within you – or something even more profound. The wearer creates the meaning, in my opinion.
